Overseeing and Consultancy
Invest in the Benefits of a Personal Service.
The importance of an owner employing a Naval Architect/Consultant cannot be underestimated undertaking a new-build or large refit project. Their detailed overall understanding of naval architecture, materials, structure and systems, is vital to the success of the project.
We have often combined the engineering, overseeing and quality control of projects, with the design of engineering systems/complete projects for larger yachts. We can act as the owner's representative and consultant, liaising between the Yard/Lloyd's Register/M.C.A./equipment suppliers, whilst keeping the owner in close touch with the project, writing regular progress reports if required.
Our overseeing Contracts have involved many types of vessel, including:
- 1. The complete restoration of the wood/almuminium constructed 105ft motor yacht 'Brave Challenger'. The hull superstructure and machinery on the vessel were completely stripped down, renovated and refitted. Midship Boat Services carried out all redesign work, and specification of equipment, and overseeing for this vessel.
- 2. Midship Boat Services oversaw the complete renovation of a 70ft 1903 Thames Steamer, named the 'Windsor Belle'. This included a major refit to the Engine Room. All machinery equipment and steam plant was removed from the Engine Room, rebuilt and refitted in the vessel to the latest M.C.A. requirements. The vessel is now operating commercially on the Thames, with a Passenger Certificate for 60 persons.
- 3. Midship Boat Services undertook the early redesign work for the 'J' Class yacht 'Endeavour', lifting the lines from the vessel, and preparing structural weight calculations and designs.
- 4. Midship Boat Services have also been involved in the redesign and egnineering specification for several Fife racing vessels, such as 'Tuiga', 'Lady Anne' and 'Maraquita', working with Fairlie Restorations Ltd.
- 5. Midship Boat Services oversaw the construction of an 84ft Ketch, 'Windweaver of Pennington' - the hull, originally by Robert Clark. This work involved complete redesign of the interior, engineering services, deck layout and conversation of the rig from staysail schooner to ketch rig. The project involved shipping the hull by road from the Midlands (the largest vessel ever to go on a British motorway), organising construction of the vessel, using sub-contractor labour, commissioning all mechanical systems, and carrying out sea trials on the vessel.
Our work on these projects involves design work, calculations, specification and supply of materials and equipment, liaising with Lloyds' Register of Shipping and the M.C.A., to satisfy the legal requirements for these vessels.
